Is Hank’s Games free?
Yes, completely. Every game is free to play, with no trial, no paid version, and nothing to buy inside the games.
Do I need to make an account?
No. There are no accounts, logins, or passwords anywhere on the site. Open a game and play — that’s the whole process.
What devices does it work on?
Anything with a modern web browser: phones, tablets, Chromebooks, laptops, and desktops. On a touchscreen you’ll get on-screen controls; on a computer you can use the keyboard. The games are especially at home on a phone or tablet.
Do I need to download or install anything?
No. Each game is a single web page that runs directly in your browser. There’s nothing to install and nothing to update.
Are the games safe for young kids?
They’re made with young children in mind. There’s cartoon mischief but no realistic violence, no scary content, and no chat with strangers. Several games can’t be “lost” at all — a bad run just means a slower time. The parents’ guide covers safety and privacy in full.
How do the leaderboards work?
When you finish a game, your time or score is compared with everyone else’s. If you land in the top ten, you enter three initials to sit on the board. Those three letters and your score are all that’s saved — no names, no personal details. Even if you don’t crack the top ten, the game shows you where your run placed among everyone who’s played.
Can I pick my own initials?
Yes — you type in any three letters or numbers when you make the board, just like an old arcade cabinet. Your device remembers your initials so you don’t have to retype them next time.
Who makes these games?
Joe and his son Henry, in a two-person home workshop. Joe builds the games; Henry supplies ideas, draws characters, and play-tests everything. The whole story is on the About page, and the behind-the-scenes details are in How the games are made.
How often are new games added?
Whenever a new one is ready and fun. We’d rather add one game we’re proud of than a pile of quick ones. Existing games also keep improving — each game’s page lists what’s changed over time.
Are my scores saved if I come back later?
Leaderboard times are stored on the shared score board, so a top-ten run stays up for everyone to see. Your own personal best on each level is also remembered on your device.
Why are the games so short?
On purpose. Short games are easy to learn, easy to fit into a spare few minutes, and endlessly replayable when there’s a high score to chase. There’s more on that thinking in How the games are made.
